Those who mean the most

Today I don't have as much a question, or an issue of the church directly. This whole week I have been really wrapped up in thinking about the people that are most important to me. For me that is my wife and three daughters. I do not have to even spend time thinking about who the most important people are to me, yet all too often they get the short end of my time. I have always had an inner and sometimes an outer conflict around this issue, but this week it is really intense. Having rambled long enough, I am challenging myself and all of us to not just talk about spending time with those who are closest to us, but to actually do it.

I've tried to avoid all the media coverage about the Virginia Tech tragedy, but last night, I surfed their site and others to learn a bit more. I found this:

"If we don't meet again, your final assignment from me is perhaps the most important lesson you will learn in life. Go to your mother, father, brothers and sisters and tell them with all your heart how much you love them. And tell them that you know how much they love you too. Go out of your way to make good memories...At some point these memories may be all you have left. May God bless you all, Bryan." --Professor Bryan Cloyd's email to his students.

Cloyd's daughter, Austin died Monday at Virginia Tech.

Speaking of "Those who matter most..." I honestly can't imagine loosing my bright, beautiful, faithful, 20-year-old daughter that way.

It's funny that this is the post I read. I just got off the phone from my father. He and my mother have been married for 31 years and now they are thinking about splitting up. It blows me away that two people that have so much love for so many people have trouble expressing it to the other person that should matter the most. A day doesn't go by without me letting my wife and my son know how much I love them. Earthly life is fragile. It is crucial that we spread the love through those that are closest to us as often as we can. Before we blink, they could be on their way home. . .
